Terms of use

Tally is private software operated by JAMES GREENWOOD LTD, a company registered in England and Wales, number 11311731, for the use of its sole director.

It is not offered to the public and not available to anyone else. There is no sign-up, no trial and no arrangement under which another person or business can obtain an account. Accordingly it is not a commercial service and these terms govern only the operator's own use of his own software.

Tally reads the company's and the director's own records from Companies House, HM Revenue & Customs, the company's accounting software and the director's mailbox, and reports what is owed, when it falls due, and what a delay would cost.

• It does not submit anything. No return, declaration or update is filed through Tally. Filing is done by the company's accountant and its recognised accounting software
• It does not move money. It cannot initiate, authorise or instruct a payment. This is a deliberate design constraint, recorded in the project's decision log, not an omission
• It does not write to any external system. Every connection is read-only

Tally distinguishes throughout between a figure an authority has stated and one Tally has derived, and labels them differently, because a computed estimate shown with the confidence of a confirmed liability is a defect.

Nothing Tally reports is tax advice. Derived figures may be wrong. The operator remains solely responsible for his own and the company's tax obligations, and for verifying any figure against the authority that issued it before acting on it.

The software is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, incomplete or incorrect. It is one input to a decision and not a substitute for the authority's own records or for professional advice.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
